  • Quincho Casa el Canal – Vitacura

Location: Lo Curro, Vitacura. Santiago, Chile. Area: 26 m2 Year: 2017 The project proposes a metal roof structure. Made up of a frame in IPE beams, which define the contours of the structure; The decision on how to support it was to use the concrete structure of the house on the east side and lose the support on the hill on the west side. Leaving in this way a roof structure free of pillars and a wide and flexible space for the use of the family, which also respects the breadth and openness of views of the pool and the city from the height of the hills. We worked with the duality of the weight of the metal, with the lightness of the Chilean colihue bamboo rods, which through the distance of the rods allows the precise passage of natural light, in the roofed area. The bamboo was worked with prefabricated panels, easy and quick to assemble on site, which were simply mounted on the metal sills. The bottom of this quincho was covered with stained and varnished maƱio boards, the same used in other sectors of the house. A sober and adjustable in intensity artificial lighting was proposed, reinforcing the warm tones of the wood and notable points such as the bench and the planter on one side of the kitchen. The furniture was worked in exposed concrete and on the island counter, a hanging copper lamp was proposed, with filament bulbs.
